Being Renewed: When God Writes His Laws on Your Heart

Introduction

This message from the Momentum service is called "being renewed." It comes right as the church steps into a new five-year season, a season of victory in the midst of confrontation, following the five-year season of deliverance. Five years, 2026 to 2030, in which God has promised to write his laws in our minds and hearts, and to renew us deeply.

Maybe you're coming into this tired, worn down by battles, after a year full of attacks and setbacks. Maybe you don't know where to place your trust anymore in a world where fear, panic, and confusion creep in everywhere: in companies, in families, in schools, in the news. The preacher opens with a very simple conviction: in Christ, you have everything. Your peace, your power, your renewal, your resurrection, your comfort, your healing, the explanation for what you don't understand: it's all in him, because it pleased all the fullness of God to dwell in him (Colossians 1:19).

What follows isn't a motivational speech. It's a call to let yourself be reconciled with God, to let him write his laws inside you, to let yourself be awakened. Here are the highlights of the message.

1. A new five-year season: from deliverance to victory in confrontation

• The church is coming out of a five-year season of deliverance. Many have been freed from their chains, their fears, old bondages. The word of deliverance keeps going, because you'll always need to be free.
• It's entering a five-year season of victory in the midst of confrontation. These are five years when you'll be at war almost constantly, but with the promise of victory each time with the Lord.
• The preacher insists: "it's a marathon, not a sprint." We'd like the battle to be over quickly, but history shows that wars drag on, and yet with every battle, God's people gain ground and the devil loses it.
• The scenery around us is changing: geopolitics is shifting, things are happening that haven't happened in 80 or 100 years, people are troubled, human laws no longer hold weight. This is exactly the moment when God wants to write his laws in you, to keep you standing firm.

2. The new covenant: God writes his laws in your mind and your heart

• To Moses, God gave his commandments on stone. Scribes later counted 603 rules on paper. Today, the Lord goes much further: he writes his laws inside you, in your mind, in your heart (Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrews 8:10). This is no longer a distant relationship.
• This isn't some vague "believing in God" that many people do without believing what God says. The Lord wants to do something inside you. You're going to be transformed. He may remove certain things that don't come from him and go against his laws.
• Don't expect to always understand it in the moment. You might say, "Lord, I don't understand." But through his love, his grace, his power, he'll write new directions and laws in you that will keep you standing.
• He does this because you need it. In an incoherent world where war rages on every side, where the markers get blurred, God wants to give you a new way of thinking, a new heart, a discernment that no longer depends on the general mood around you.

3. Being renewed: in your strength, your thoughts, your joy, your hope, your faith

• The pastor ministered on renewal, and the preacher picks that word back up. You will be renewed in your physical strength, in your human condition, in your thoughts, in your joy, in your hope, in your faith. This renewal comes through closeness with the Lord.
• A simple picture: when you renew your wardrobe, you get rid of what's worn out, what no longer fits, and you bring in something new, something beautiful, something prepared for the event ahead. God does the same for you. He prepares you for the important moments and for everyday things.
• Maybe today you feel stuck, unable to move forward, unable to step into what's coming. Relax in the Lord's presence, and accept what he has to say to you. It will be good for you.
• This renewal is essential, because the season has changed. The pastor put it plainly: "we're changing the air we breathe." It's up to you to let God guide you, not to let what's around you get deep under your skin. That's why he writes his laws in you: so you'll be firm and strong, equipped for what's coming.

4. In Christ, you have everything: Colossians 1:19-20 as the word for this season

• "For it pleased the Father that in him all the fullness should dwell, and through him to reconcile all things to himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross, whether things on the earth or things in the heavens." This is the key verse given for this five-year season.
• In Christ, there is resurrection. In Christ, there is the solution to your problems. In Christ, there is peace. In Christ, there is renewal. In Christ, there is the explanation for what you don't understand. In Christ, there is healing, comfort. In Christ, you have everything.
• You need that reconciliation. To receive the Lord's laws in your mind and your heart, you first need to be reconciled with him. And he wants to be reconciled with you too.
• You even have the right to be angry with God. Prophets have done it, like Jeremiah when God asked him to buy his cousin's field while Jerusalem was about to fall and land was about to become worthless. God answered him: "keep the deed, because you will return and this land will be worth a great deal." Sometimes you stop at what you can see, and God's plan is far bigger. To walk into it, you need to be reconciled with him.

5. An open door that no one can shut (Revelation 3:7-13)

• To the church in Philadelphia, Jesus presents himself as the holy one, the true one, the one who holds the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one will open. It's almost the only church he has no complaint against.
• He says: "Behold, I have set before you an open door that no one can shut, because you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name." Receive that word for yourself. Maybe you feel like you have no strength. Like Elijah facing Ahab, you're worn out. But God gives you strength. It's not your own power that counts, it's your faithfulness to his word.
• If the Lord opens a door for you, no one can shut it. The powerful of this world, the banks, those who govern, don't hold all the power. All the fullness of power is in Christ. Put your trust in him.
• "Because you have kept the word of my patience, I also will keep you from the hour of testing which is coming on the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth. I am coming quickly. Hold on to what you have, so that no one takes your crown."
• How will the Lord return? You don't know exactly. The first time, he was born in a stable, almost in secret; the inns were full, no one had compassion on a pregnant woman walking the roads. A few shepherds saw a sign, a few magi followed a star. Expect his moves to often come through paths you'd never think of.

6. Waking up from sleep: Romans 13:11-12

• "Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let's therefore throw off the deeds of darkness, and let's put on the armor of light."
• Remember the parable of the ten virgins: some had no more oil in their lamps, others still did. Some missed the moment, others made it in time. It's up to you to wake up from sleep once and for all.
• This awakening comes through the renewal of your mind and your heart. That's where the Lord writes his laws. That's where you learn to discern what comes from darkness and what comes from light, what comes from the noise of the world and what comes from the Father's word.
• This isn't the time to stop. It isn't the time to look back. It's the time to look toward the Lord, because in his word and his promises you find the strength to keep going, despite the attacks, the setbacks, and the challenges.

7. The day of the Lord and the chaos around you (Zephaniah)

• This part of the message is titled "the day of the Lord." The first prophet to speak of it is Zephaniah, who wrote in the days of Josiah, a time of technological progress and a certain comfort of life, when the people put their hope in technology and let themselves be distracted while the enemy advanced behind the scenes.
• The preacher invites everyone to read Zephaniah 1 during the week. There, God describes widespread oppression: people who find no joy in their work anymore, who are anxious without knowing why, who panic over money, over sickness, who just don't feel well. Have you run into that this week? Everywhere, at every level.
• The day of the Lord is the day he comes. For God's children, it's good news. For those who haven't placed their trust in him, it's chaos, fear, panic. If you see fear and panic spreading everywhere, it's actually a sign that your Lord is near.
• God's heart never changes: Isaiah 16:3-5 reminds us of that. Kindness, protection for the refugee, the weak, the fugitive. Any talk that justifies harshness, contempt, or division, whatever the excuse, goes against the heart of God. Don't let yourself be swayed by ideas like these, which are making their way even into parts of the church today.

8. Holding on to the promise through confrontation: David as a model

• David was persecuted by Saul, then by his own son Absalom, who invented a thousand lies about his father. David was mistreated, rejected, hunted, faced attempts on his life. He went through terrible trials, but he knew where to place his trust.
• In the caves, while Saul was hunting him down, he kept fighting the Philistine oppressing his people. He didn't wait for Saul to stop. He didn't repay evil with evil. He kept doing what God had called him to do.
• He sang to the Lord, he wrote poems and songs. He often began with complaint and ended with praise. And every single time, God worked the miracle.
• Even before Goliath, he had declared: "the Lord doesn't save by sword or by spear." That's what gave him the courage to face the giant, to keep fighting through persecution, and to protect his people against Absalom's lies.
• Your battle today isn't against flesh and blood, but against the powers of darkness. Take back ground from the powers of darkness, keep your heart where the Lord's heart is, and don't repay evil with evil.

9. Truly serving: moving past religious consumption

• Watch out for manipulation and confusion. Not everything Christian is your calling. Some Christians spend their day on YouTube listening to sermons from Germany, Africa, wherever, and convince themselves they're serving God. The preacher is blunt: "You're not serving anyone sitting behind YouTube at home."
• Listening to worship music all day isn't serving either, in general. Serving God means serving souls: welcoming people at church, inviting someone to prayer group, opening your home, bringing along a friend who's struggling, telling someone what God has done in your life.
• If you want to serve but don't know where, reach out to the pastoral team. Ask the Lord where he wants you, he'll show you. There are opportunities, God is good.

10. Take authority, don't repay evil with evil

• Take authority in the name of Jesus against the oppression coming over your city, your neighborhood, your home, your job, your school. Deny all power to the spirit of death, the spirit of confusion, the spirit of addiction, the spirit of resignation. Take back what the enemy has stolen: your joy, your time, your sleep, your money, your ministry.
• Don't accept oppression in your feelings, in your body, in your family, in your emotions. Don't let yourself be pushed around, don't let the devil take a place in your life, at any level: your bedroom, your home, your job, your ministry.
• But don't repay evil with evil. The devil wants to pull you into anger, offense, fear, so you become paralyzed. The Lord tells you: keep your heart firm in me, remember what I'm doing for you, take back the lies and leave other people's flesh alone.
• You lend your faith to your brother, he lends you his. You encourage each other through testimonies, you move forward together. God's compassions are new every morning. Today, there is grace for you, and something good. Go get it.
