What does the Bible say about trials?
The Bible does not promise a life without difficulty — Jesus announces the opposite: "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). Trials are pictured as a passage where faith is refined like gold in fire (1 Peter 1:7), with God present in the middle of it: "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you" (Isaiah 43:2).

Why does God allow trials?
The Bible does not give a single answer, but it shows that God uses trials: James 1:2-4 speaks of faith producing perseverance, Romans 5:3-4 of hope forged through endurance. A trial is never God's abandonment — Isaiah 43:2 promises his presence in the waters.
How do I keep my faith in hard times?
By remembering what God has already done, by staying surrounded (isolation makes trials worse), and by continuing to feed your trust through the Word and prayer. Several sermons on this page are devoted to that crossing.
Are trials a punishment from God?
No. Jesus explicitly refused that shortcut (John 9:3). Trials are part of a broken world; the biblical promise is not to escape them but to be accompanied and transformed through them — and 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures that God always prepares a way out.
