Peter, the Hero at Heart Who Learned to Get Back Up

Hi friend! Today I want to tell you about a very special hero. He didn't have a cape and he didn't have any superpowers. His name was Peter, and he was a friend of Jesus. You know what? Peter made lots of mistakes. Just like you, just like me. But Jesus never gave up on him. Never. And that's why Peter is a true hero at heart.

1. Peter Walks on Water (for One Second!)

Peter was a fisherman. One day, he saw Jesus walking on the water. Picture the scene: Jesus standing on the sea, as if it were solid ground! Peter cried out, "I want to come too!" And Jesus answered him, "Come!"

And Peter did something amazing: he walked on the water. For real! But do you know how long it lasted? Just one second. Because as soon as he looked at the wind and the waves around him, he got scared and started to sink. He sank down into the water, like a stone.

But Jesus didn't let him sink. He took him by the hand and lifted him back up. Here's the first thing to remember: when you're afraid, Jesus takes you by the hand.

2. Peter Makes a Promise, Then Gets Scared

Later, Peter made a big promise to Jesus: "I will never abandon you!" He sounded so sure of himself. But then, when things got complicated, a huge fear swept over him. And three times, he said, "I don't know Jesus."

Three times. Peter thought it was all over. He had betrayed his best friend. In his heart, he must have felt terrible. Maybe something like that has happened to you too, something that made you feel small, guilty, as if you weren't worth anything anymore.

3. Jesus Seeks Him Out and Lifts Him Up

But the story doesn't end there! After the resurrection, Jesus went to find Peter. He didn't lecture him. He didn't scold him. He looked him straight in the eyes and asked him one question: "Peter, do you love me?"

And he asked him three times. Do you know why three times? Because Peter had said three times, "I don't know him." And now Jesus was giving him three chances to say, "I love you." Isn't that beautiful?

Three times, Peter answered: "Yes, Lord, I love you. You know that I love you." And he added a wonderful line: "Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you."

And what did Jesus do? He forgave him, he lifted him up, and he set him back on his feet. Exactly that. He set him back on his feet.

4. And Now, It's Your Turn

When we make a mistake, it's a bit like falling into the water. Splash! We feel sad, soaked, discouraged. But Jesus never lets us drown. His forgiveness is like his hand, always reaching down to lift us back up.

Maybe you too have made a mistake and you think, "I'm not worth anything anymore." Listen closely: Jesus says to you, "I'm lifting you up, be at peace." No matter how many times you fall. He is always there.

• Making mistakes is normal. Even Peter, Jesus's friend, made lots of mistakes.
• Jesus takes you by the hand. When you're sinking, he pulls you back up.
• Jesus's forgiveness is bigger than your mistakes. Always.
• You are a hero at heart. Not because you're perfect, but because Jesus lifts you up.

Here's your mission! Grab a sheet of paper and a pencil. Draw a big hand, a really big one, by placing your own hand on the paper and tracing it with your finger. Then write this sentence inside it:

"Jesus always lifts me up."

Every time you make a mistake, look at this drawn hand and remember: Jesus has already forgiven you. You are lifted up. You are loved. You are a hero at heart.
