How did Lou Fellingham get started?

Lou Fellingham started out in Brighton with Phatfish, a band founded in 1994 that began as a jazz-funk group before turning to worship. She is its lead singer, with Nathan Fellingham on drums. The band released albums such as We Know the Story (1997), Heavenbound (2001) and Higher (2011), and performed in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.

In 2006 she released Treasure, her first solo album, then Promised Land in 2008. Her work earned her several invitations to the BBC's Songs of Praise. After Fascinate (2014), she recorded This Changes Everything in front of an audience in Brighton in January 2017, then Made For You (2019), whose songs were written with several writers, including Noel Robinson and Michael Farren.

What makes Lou Fellingham distinctive?

She writes and leads worship for the congregation, with simple songs that are easy to take up in church. She has led worship at Spring Harvest, Festival of Praise and Prom Praise. With Nathan Fellingham, her writing partner, she has hosted the online Worship Wednesdays every week for more than six years, and she supports other worship leaders through the Worship Unlocked programme.

Her repertoire also makes room for hymns: the album Lean On the Everlasting Arms (Hymns, Vol. 1) dates from 2021 and the EP Songs for Easter from 2022. In 2024 and 2025 she released the live albums Lift Up His Name and Abba Father, with Emmanuel Smith and Noel Robinson among the guests.
