Timothy David Llewelyn Hughes was born on July 23, 1977. The son of an Anglican pastor, he grew up in High Wycombe and then in Birmingham, where his father became vicar of St John's Church in Harborne. In 1997, at the invitation of pastor Mike Pilavachi, he began leading worship at the Soul Survivor festival, then succeeded Matt Redman as music director of Soul Survivor church in Watford.
In 2001, his first album, Here I Am to Worship, carried the title track that would become one of the most sung worship songs in the world. In 2005, he joined Holy Trinity Brompton, in London, as director of worship, then co-founded the Worship Central movement in 2006 with Al Gordon, to train worship leaders around the world. Ordained a priest in the Church of England, he is now vicar of St Luke's Church in Birmingham.
