This prayer for comfort is for you if your heart is heavy, if you are grieving, or if you are looking for words to pray for a friend who is hurting. Comfort in grief and sorrow does not mean the pain disappears overnight. It means you are not alone in it. God is near the brokenhearted, and he welcomes your tears, your questions and your silence. Comfort in Grief
Lord, I have lost someone I love, and the pain is deeper than I can put into words. Some moments I feel numb, other moments I cannot stop crying. You know this grief, because Jesus wept at the tomb of his friend. I bring you my sadness, my regrets and my questions. Hold me when the house is too quiet and the memories are too strong. Give me rest at night and strength for the mornings. Help me grieve honestly, without rushing and without losing hope. Surround me with people who will listen. I entrust to you the one I miss, and I hold on to your promise that one day you will wipe away every tear. Until then, stay close to me. In Jesus' name, amen.
Revelation 21:4
Comfort in Sorrow
Father, my heart is heavy today. I am carrying a sorrow that I cannot always explain, a disappointment, a wound, a weariness that will not let go. I do not want to hide it from you anymore. You see what others do not see. Come and meet me in this valley. Be my shepherd when I do not know which way to go. Calm my anxious thoughts and quiet the voices that tell me I am alone. Let me feel your presence, even if it is only a little at a time. Teach me to receive the comfort you give through your Word, through prayer and through the people around me. I trust that this season will not have the last word. In Jesus' name, amen.
Psalm 23:4
Comfort for a Friend
Lord, I lift up my friend to you. They are going through deep pain right now, and I do not know what to say. You know their heart better than I do. Comfort them in the places where my words cannot reach. Be close to them at night, when the sorrow feels the heaviest. Give them rest, and give them people who will stay. Help me to be a faithful friend: to listen more than I speak, to show up with simple help, and to stay present when others move on. Keep me from offering easy answers to a hard situation. Use the comfort you have given me to comfort them. Let them know, deep inside, that they are loved by you. In Jesus' name, amen.

Matthew 5:4

God is near the brokenhearted
« Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. »
Psalm 34:18
I declare that God does not keep his distance from my pain. He is near me when my heart is broken and my spirit is crushed.
Rest for the weary heart
« Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. »
Matthew 11:28
I proclaim that I can lay down my burden at the feet of Jesus. He invites me to come to him, and he gives rest to my weary soul.
