A friendship is built over time, and God cares about each of your relationships. Pray honestly, name your hopes as well as your wounds, and ask him to make you a faithful friend.
Lord, thank you for the people you have placed on my path. Today I think of my friends, of those who listen to me, correct me gently and stay close in hard times. Help me be for them what they are for me: available, honest and faithful. Keep my tongue from criticism and gossip. Give me the chance to encourage someone today, with a message, a call or a visit. May our friendship glorify you and bring us closer to you. In Jesus' name, amen.
Proverbs 17:17
Father, you see my loneliness and how hard it sometimes is for me to build bonds. I entrust to you the friendships that have faded, the ones that hurt me and the ones I miss. Help me forgive where there was disappointment, and recognize my own faults. I do not want to withdraw into myself. Place sincere people on my path, people with whom I can share my faith, laugh and cry. Until then, remind me that you are always present and that you never leave me. I place my relationships in your hands, in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hebrews 13:5
Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me your friend. You gave your life for me, and you trust me by entrusting me with your Word. What a privilege! Teach me to love my friends as you love me, with patience, truth and generosity. Thank you for the laughter we have shared, the advice I have received, the prayers we have prayed together. Keep our friendships from pride and jealousy. May every relationship you give me be a place where your love can be seen. I give thanks for each of them, and I praise you for your faithfulness to me. Proverbs 27:17
I proclaim that as iron sharpens iron, my friendships sharpen my character and draw me closer to the man or woman God calls me to be.
The Bible speaks of friendship as a treasure. Proverbs says that a friend loves at all times (Proverbs 17:17), and Ecclesiastes reminds us that two are better than one (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). Jesus himself calls his disciples his friends (John 15:15). True friendship rests on faithfulness, truth spoken gently and mutual service.
Bring your friend to God by name, ask him to give strength, peace and wisdom, and to help you stay present for them. You can also tell your friend that you are praying, if that would do them good. Galatians 6:2 invites us to carry one another's burdens, and prayer is a first way to do it.
Bring your hurt to God before reacting. Ask him for gentleness to speak frankly and the grace to forgive, as he has forgiven you (Ephesians 4:32). A friendship can be repaired through an honest conversation. If that is not possible, entrust the situation to God without bitterness and stay open to new encounters.
