Prayers

A Daily Prayer for Pregnancy

Lord, thank you for the life growing within me. Every day I feel how much I depend on you. Give me rest when I am tired, patience when I am anxious, and joy in the small things. Take care of my baby, whom you already know. Help me look after my body well, listen to the advice of caregivers and not let fear overwhelm me. Stay close to me today, and teach me to rest in your faithful love. Thank you that I am never alone. In Jesus' name, amen.

Psalm 139:13

Entrusting My Baby and the Birth to God

Father, I entrust to you my child, my pregnancy and the day of the birth. I do not know everything that awaits me, and some thoughts trouble me. I hand them over to you one by one. Give me your peace that goes beyond what I understand. Surround me with kind people, and give wisdom and calm to those who will care for us. Whatever happens, I want to remember that you are good and that you stay with us. I lean on you. In Jesus' name, amen.

Philippians 4:6-7

A Prayer for the Desire for a Child and for Patience

Lord, you know the desire of my heart to welcome a child. You also see the waiting, the weariness and sometimes the sadness. I tell you honestly what I feel. I do not dictate your answer, but I ask you to give me your peace and patience. When the days all look the same and the waiting weighs on me, remind me that you never forget me. Surround me with people who pray with me and support me gently. Whatever happens, help us stay confident in your goodness. In Jesus' name, amen.

Frequently asked questions

What prayer should I say for a pregnant woman?

You can thank God for the life that is growing, entrust the mother, the child and the birth to him, and ask for his peace. The Bible invites us to present our requests to God with thanksgiving, and his peace then guards our hearts (Philippians 4:6-7). You can pray in your own words, aloud or silently.

Can you pray to get pregnant?

Yes, you can bring this desire to God as you would any other request. Several women in the Bible, like Hannah, prayed with tears for a child. There is no guaranteed formula: we pray with trust, accepting that God is sovereign, and we keep listening for him.

What does the Bible say about the child in the womb?

The Bible says that God knows every child before birth. The psalmist writes: "You formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13). Every life is precious in God's eyes, and parents can entrust it to him with gratitude.
