A Short Prayer Before Leaving

Lord, I am leaving on a trip and I entrust my journey to you. Go with me from departure to arrival, keep me focused and patient, and give me wisdom when things do not go as planned. Protect those I leave behind and those who are waiting for me. If the trip is long or tiring, remind me that you are present in every mile. Give me the joy of discovery, calm when there are delays and a grateful heart on arrival. I want to travel in peace, remembering that my life belongs to you. In Jesus' name, amen.

Psalm 121:8

Entrusting a Family Trip to God

Father, we are leaving as a family and we entrust this trip to you. You know the road, the weather, the tiredness and everything that might surprise us. I ask for your wisdom to decide, your peace when we are rushed and your patience between us. Keep the drivers, the children, the luggage and our hearts. Thank you for this time together. May the memories we make be good ones, and may we come back closer, rested and grateful for your faithfulness to us. Whatever happens, we want to remember that you are with us. In Jesus' name, amen.

Proverbs 3:6

A Prayer of Trust for Someone Who Is Traveling

Lord, thank you for watching over those who travel, here or on the other side of the world. I entrust to you the one who is leaving, whether by car, train or plane. May your presence strengthen them, may your peace fill their heart, and may their return be full of gratitude. Give them kind encounters, wisdom in their choices and strength when they are tired. When they feel alone, remind them that you are there. Even if I cannot go with them, I know you stay by their side. I trust you. In Jesus' name, amen.

Frequently asked questions

What prayer should I say before a flight?

You can pray simply before takeoff: thank God, entrust the passengers and crew to him, and ask for his peace. The Bible invites us to bring everything to him (Philippians 4:6-7). This prayer does not guarantee that nothing unexpected will happen, but it helps you travel with a calmer mind.

Can you pray for a traveler who is going far away?

Yes, you can entrust them to God by naming their road, their meetings and their return. Ask for peace, wisdom and the protection of their heart. The psalmist says: "Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in" (Psalm 121:8). This is not a guarantee against every difficulty, but the assurance of God's faithful presence on the road.

How do I pray before a car trip?

Before starting out, take a moment with the passengers: thank God, ask him for alertness for the driver and patience for everyone. A short prayer is enough. It does not remove the need to be careful, to rest and to respect the road, because praying and acting wisely go together (Proverbs 3:6).
