Who is 油山シャローム教会?
油山シャローム教会 (Aburayama Shalom Church) is the everyday name of the Fukuoka Church, affiliated with the Japanese denomination 日本イエス・キリスト教団 (Nihon Iesu Kirisuto Kyodan). Founded in 1955, the church is located at 6-15-9 Higashi-Aburayama in Fukuoka's Jonan Ward (postal code 814-0155), close to Fukudai-mae Station. Two services are held every Sunday, a first one at 8:45 AM and a second at 11:10 AM, the latter streamed live on the church's YouTube channel since 2025. A new church building was completed in spring 2026.
Senior pastor Horo Yokota, who holds a PhD in New Testament studies from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, is known for making Bible messages accessible through everyday illustrations. In 2016 he also founded the Kyushu Christian Disaster Relief Center, which he still directs. He serves alongside emeritus pastor Takeyuki Yokota, who pioneered the work in Fukuoka, as well as an American missionary and a young evangelist responsible for youth ministry.
