Who is 千歳福音キリスト教会?
The church was founded in September 1966 by missionaries from the United Kingdom, originally gathering Japan Self Defense Force personnel and the families of US military members then stationed in the Chitose area, before local residents progressively joined the congregation. The current church building was dedicated in 1982, and the church joined JECA (日本福音キリスト教会連合, Japan Evangelical Church Association) in 1992, one of Japan's main evangelical church unions. Since April 2020, it has been led by its fifth pastor, Tokio Arashi, born in Tokyo in 1948 and a 1981 graduate of the Hokkaido Bible Institute.
Today the church brings together believers of all ages, from young children to the elderly, around Sunday worship and several weekly times of prayer and Bible teaching. It describes itself as a Protestant evangelical church with no connection to Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, or the Unification Church.
