Who is Église du Tabernacle?
Église du Tabernacle is an evangelical Baptist church located at 163 bis rue Belliard, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Affiliated with the AEEBLF and a member of the CNEF, it brings together a multicultural, multigenerational family of Christians seeking to live an authentic faith in Jesus. On its website, the community describes itself as committed to the Word of God and to teaching it, in a spirit of passing on God's love across every generation represented within it.
Founded in late 1888 in central Paris by Ruben Saillens (1855-1942), a leading figure of the French Baptist movement, the church settled on rue Belliard from 1921, where its current building was completed in 1928. Largely destroyed by the bombing of 26 August 1944, the Tabernacle was rebuilt in the following years, then experienced renewal from the 1970s onward as members from French overseas territories and countries joined the congregation. Its pastoral team and council today include Benjamin Short (pastor), Samuel Boum (elder), Adeline Patin (council president) and Jonathan (vice-president).
Sunday worship takes place every week at 10:30 am and combines praise, a Bible-based message and the Lord's Supper, with time for coffee and fellowship before and after. Children aged 3 to 14 attend Bible workshops during the school term, grouped by age. Those aged 15 to 23 meet twice a month on Saturdays through the GDJ youth group, the Women's Circle holds monthly gatherings, and house groups (GDM) meet weekly, in person or via Zoom, for Bible study and prayer. A Discovery course and baptism preparation course are also offered.
