Metropolitan Tabernacle

Evangelical church in London

Who is Metropolitan Tabernacle?

The Metropolitan Tabernacle is an independent Reformed Baptist church at Elephant & Castle, south London. Its fellowship goes back to 1650; its pastor Benjamin Keach built a first chapel near Tower Bridge as soon as freedom came to Baptists in 1688. Charles Haddon Spurgeon was its pastor from 1854 to 1892, and it was during his ministry that the Tabernacle at Elephant & Castle was built, opening in 1861.

Dr Peter Masters has been pastor of the church for more than fifty years, alongside Pastor Christopher Buss. On Sundays the church holds a teaching service in the morning and a gospel service in the evening, with interpretation in several languages and in sign language. Sermons are published online and on YouTube. Efficient Church summarizes a selection of them on this page: each article distils a teaching with its key verses and links back to the original video and the church's channel.
