Listen
Matt Marvane is a French pastor, singer-songwriter, and worship leader, pastor of Église SOS in Lyon alongside his wife Sarah since 2019. After the group JTM Band, he has pursued a solo career since 2013 with albums like Résistance and Noirs & Blancs, and has led the prayer movement RESISTANCE since 2017.

Matt Marvane grew up straddling two worlds: that of his father's church, where his father was a pastor, and that of music, which he discovered at the piano from the age of six. He gave his first public concerts at ten, started a gospel choir at seventeen, then founded the group JTM Band at twenty-two, which went on to play more than three hundred concerts across Europe and Canada until 2012. This collective experience laid the groundwork for a musical ministry he would go on to pursue solo.

His first solo album, Un Coin de Paradis, came out in 2013, followed by Noirs et Blancs in 2015, then Résistance in 2017 on Integrity Music, a record that gave its name to the prayer and worship movement RESISTANCE. Since June 2019, Matt Marvane has been pastor of Église SOS in Lyon alongside his wife Sarah, with whom he continues to write and sing, notably on the live album Pour sa Gloire carried by that same movement.

How did Matt Marvane get started?

The son of a pastor, Matt Marvane grew up in his father's church while being drawn to music from a very young age: he played piano from the age of six and gave his first public concerts at ten. At seventeen, he started a gospel choir, an experience that confirmed his taste for group singing and corporate worship.

At twenty-two, he founded the group JTM Band, which released several albums and played more than three hundred concerts across Europe and Canada until 2012. It was after this collective adventure that he launched his solo career with Un Coin de Paradis in 2013, a first acoustic album that earned him more than one hundred thirty concerts in two years.

What makes Matt Marvane distinctive?

Matt Marvane pursues two callings at once: that of pastor and that of singer-songwriter. Since June 2019, he has led Église SOS in Lyon together with his wife Sarah, where music remains a tool for teaching as much as for worship. His album Résistance, released in 2017 on Integrity Music, gave its name to RESISTANCE, a prayer and worship movement that continues to exist nearly a decade later through live albums recorded at Église SOS.

This continuity between the name of a record and a grassroots movement, carried year after year by the same church, sets Matt Marvane apart from a mere studio artist. His wife Sarah Marvane appears on a large share of his most notable songs, making their duo a point of reference for many French-speaking congregations.

Where should you start to discover Matt Marvane?

Start with Pour sa Gloire, recorded live with RESISTANCE and Église SOS Lyon in 2024: cowritten with David Ostby and Joshua Artono, this song has passed two million views on YouTube. You can then listen to Grâce sur grâce and Mon âme (Quand je contemple ta sainteté), two duets with his wife Sarah Marvane that showcase their way of singing together.

To trace things back to the beginning, Un Coin de Paradis (2013) remains his very first solo album, acoustic and understated, before the more polished productions of Noirs et Blancs and Résistance. His official YouTube channel @MattMarvane brings together his music videos as well as acoustic worship sessions and sermons given at Église SOS Lyon.
