Genesis 27: The Gateways of the Hands and Your Destiny

10 min read

Introduction

"This morning, I bring a message from the Lord that I am going to call the gateways of the hands." Back from a mission trip to Kinshasa, Pastor Josué preaches at the Centre Évangélique Sion during the first service on Sunday, October 11, 2026. This theme, he says, the Lord gave him while he was meditating deeply on the Word.

His starting point: "Life is so spiritual that there are things that may not be visible in your life but that speak louder than your words." He says himself that he will only "lay the introduction" of a longer teaching.

The text is Genesis 27, the well-known story in which Jacob passes himself off as Esau. The preacher pauses on one detail: Isaac recognizes Jacob's voice, but it is by touching his hands that he blesses him. From there, he goes back to the birth of the twins (Genesis 25), moves on to the pierced hands of Jesus, and ends with Jacob holding on to the angel with his hands.

Outline of the Message

1. Your Destiny Is Precious in God's Eyes

  • "If your destiny had no value in God's eyes, Jesus would never have come to die for you. If he came to die for you, it is because you matter to him."
  • The consequence: as soon as you become a friend of God, you necessarily become an enemy of the devil.
  • The pastor is back from Congo, where he saw that even having milk is a luxury. Being able to choose in the morning what you want from your fridge is a grace. He observes that in Europe, "we have become extremely lax when it comes to seeking God, because we have the bare minimum."
  • "When your life starts to speak louder than your mouth, you have entered another circle." Some people do not need to speak: you can feel that they have arrived.
  • He tells about his stay in Kinshasa: having arrived in a rented place, he started to pray at midnight. A few days later, water began to come up out of the tiles. He laughed about it: "Now we understand that someone has arrived on the spot." His prayer for you: that wherever you set your feet, people would sense that you are there.
  • "Your problem is that you are ignorant of who you are." Hence this message about your identity.

2. What Your Hands Reveal: Jacob's Voice, Esau's Hands (Genesis 27)

  • Before listening to what you say, people try to identify what your hands reveal. In your hand, there are things that can bring you to your destiny and things that can block you.
  • The pastor immediately clarifies: "Here in Christ, we are not sorcerers. Here in Christ, we walk in the spirituality of light." What he teaches, he wants to show from the Bible.
  • For some destinies, he explains, the mouth announces and the hands come to confirm: there are things that do not need to be said, the contact of the hands is enough.
  • Rebekah takes Esau's best clothes to dress Jacob in them. She covers his hands and his neck with the skins of the young goats (verses 15-16), then she puts into his hand the savory food and the bread she had prepared (verse 17). "The hands were covered with hair and the hands received an offering."
  • Many preachers say that Isaac touched Jacob's body. Pastor Josué corrects: "Isaac did not touch the body." He knew exactly where to look. "There are people who do not need to touch your body, they just need to come into contact with your hands."
  • Isaac, a Spirit-filled patriarch, recognizes the voice. Yet he asks to touch his son. The preacher raises the question: before that day, had Isaac ever called Esau to touch him before eating? "The answer is no."
  • "The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau" (verse 22). Isaac does not recognize him, because his hands are hairy, and he blesses him.
  • A sentence to write down, he insists, even on your phone: "A person's hands are an entrance and an exit into their life and their destiny."
  • Another detail: you cannot cover the palm of the hand with skin. The only possible place is the back of the hand.
  • "Something that speaks in the hands cannot deceive. The voice of your hand is louder than the voice of your mouth."
  • On contentment: "The law of contentment is good. You say thank you to God for what you have received. But it must not push you to stop there. You were born for great things."

3. Genesis 25: Jacob, the Man of the Hands from His Mother's Womb

  • Rebekah was barren, Isaac pleaded with the Lord, and the children struggled together within her. The Lord said to her: "Two nations are in your womb [...] The elder will serve the younger" (verse 23).
  • "The word has already gone out. But God will not do the part that you have to do."
  • The second twin comes out, and "his hand had hold on Esau's heel" (verse 26). For the pastor, Jacob always had only one strength: his hands. His mother had understood this, and that is why she bet on them.
  • Esau was the worker, the hunter his father loved. Yet the one who was blessed was Jacob. The pastor turns this into a prayer: "Nobody is going to eat the sweat of my brow without me and my children benefiting from it."
  • "A person's hands can propel them forward, or a person's hands can become their brake."
  • He speaks to those whose lives had started well (top of their class, promised a bright future) and who see everything tip over one day. He speaks of a "shift": at some point, something changed direction. "You were born in the same family, but you do not have the same destiny."

4. Open Your Eyes: Discernment About Hands

  • "Do not neglect your hands. Do not neglect who lays their hands on your head. Do not neglect the hands that greet you." For the pastor, some people, when they shake your hand, "come with a new card."
  • Jesus is the Ancient of Days (Daniel 7:9), but the devil is "the old serpent" (Revelation 12:9): he is old, and old age has one advantage, knowledge. "People have missed their destiny because of a moment of distraction." Hence the call: "Do not be distracted, my son. Do not be distracted, my daughter. [...] Be someone who is in prayer."
  • He shares the testimony of a woman who wrote to him. She had helped a friend and housed her for two years. This friend took her twice to Belgium to get her hair braided, and insisted on paying the second time. The first time, she was sick for three days. The second time, she ended up in the emergency room with patches on her head, then a serious diagnosis. While praying, she had a dream: her friend entered her home, put down a wig and left.
  • His conclusion: you share your belongings without knowing through which hands they have passed. Then the prayer he has the congregation repeat, right hand raised: "Jesus, open the eyes of my spirit so that I can discern what is hidden behind all the acts of my enemies."
  • "Spirituality is the foundation of a successful life on earth."

5. The Pierced Hands of Jesus

  • "Someone else's fingerprints can make you become someone else." But through the hands of Jesus, access was given to children so that they could be transformed. "Jesus understood that through my hands, something can happen."
  • Risen, he carries his wounds in his hands. He says to Thomas: put your finger here and look at my hands (John 20:27).
  • "The hands of Jesus were pierced so that your own hands would no longer be pierced." Anyone who shakes your hand will encounter the cross of Jesus.
  • The hands that were once an access point for the enemy become "a place through which blessings can enter."
  • He reminds us that the wedding ring is worn on the hand: the hand is the sign of belonging.
  • He invites everyone to look at their hands and speak to them: "My hands, you will no longer make me suffer. You will be blessed because of Jesus."

6. The Gateway of Azazel and the Will to Change

  • Isaac asked for a sign, and that sign was the hand. The pastor speaks of five gateways that can open through the hand, but develops only one, the others requiring more teaching in his view: the gateway of Azazel.
  • In Leviticus 16, two goats are presented: one is offered to God for sin, and on the other the hands are laid to transfer the people's faults to it (Leviticus 16:21). "There are people who were touched just like that, and from that point on, everything that belonged to them was transferred."
  • "If you do not rise up for your life, even the pastor cannot raise you up for your life, because it is a matter of personal will."
  • In Kinshasa, during a meal, he saw a child under five waiting for the fish heads to be left for him to eat. "Eat everything, just leave me the head." The pastor had tears in his eyes: that child had only one desire, that things would change.
  • "The attitude of laxity, the attitude of waiting for others to pray for you must change." He cites Hosea: it is time to seek the Lord (Hosea 10:12). God shows himself to those who say to him: "I have had enough, look at my life. Show me what must change."
  • He warns the one who asks for God's favor and then goes back home to the same relationship of cohabitation or adultery: "You do not want it to change."
  • "You do not know what a day may bring forth" (Proverbs 27:1). If God is knocking at your door to tell you to rise up, now is the moment.

7. Like Jacob, Hold On to God with Your Hands

  • Jacob sent his family across and stayed alone. A man wrestled with him until daybreak, and Jacob said: "I will not let you go, unless you bless me" (Genesis 32:24-26).
  • "Jacob held on to the angel with his hands." The pastor's call: "This morning, do not let God go. Hold on to God with your hands."
  • "Through your hands, God can give you a new identity." He ties this promise to John 1:12: to all who received him, he gave the right to become children of God.
  • The message ends with a time of prayer, with clapping hands, that where a destiny has been altered, it would change in the name of Jesus.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Isaac touch Jacob's hands in Genesis 27?

Isaac recognizes Jacob's voice, but he asks to touch his son. For Pastor Josué, this test is no accident: Isaac had never asked to touch Esau before. He looks for the truth in the hands, because "the voice of your hand is louder than the voice of your mouth."

What does "the gateways of the hands" mean?

The preacher teaches that a person's hands are "an entrance and an exit into their life and their destiny." They can propel a person forward or become their brake. Hence his call for discernment about the hands we allow to rest on our lives.

What connection does Pastor Josué make between hands and the cross?

Risen, Jesus shows his hands to Thomas. For the preacher, the hands of Jesus were pierced "so that your own hands would no longer be pierced": whoever shakes your hand now encounters the cross, and your hands become a place where blessing enters.
