3. Your disobedience brings storms

Matthew 7:24-27: whoever puts the Word into practice builds on the rock, whoever hears it without applying it builds on the sand. Both face the storm, but one stands and the other collapses.
The obedient Christian also goes through storms, but many of the storms we experience could have been avoided through simple obedience.
Jonah's disobedience didn't affect only him: the entire crew was in danger. Your choices impact those around you.

4. In the pit, God hears our prayers

Thrown into the sea, swallowed by the fish, Jonah believes it's over. In the belly of the fish, he cries out to God, and God hears him.
2 Chronicles 7:13-15: if my people humble themselves, pray, and seek my face, I will hear from heaven and I will forgive.
Whatever choices have led you to where you are, if you humble yourself and return to God, He is able to forgive you and change your situation.
Jonah's reflex wasn't to wallow in self-pity, but to cry out to God. That is the reflex God wants to form in you.

5. God speaks a second time

Jonah 3 says it clearly: God addresses Jonah a second time. The fish spits him out, and God says exactly the same thing again.
God does not change. Your disobedience has not altered His word or His plan for you.
Jérémie tells the story of Serge Fix, a friend of his father's, who loved Jesus while struggling with alcohol. One evening, completely drunk, Serge pulled a Bible out of his glove compartment and gave it to him. God used an imperfect man to plant the Word in Jérémie's heart.
God shows you grace once, twice, three times, four times. He wants to give you the chance to get back up.

6. Jonah fulfills God's will

After the storm and the fish, Jonah gets up, goes to Nineveh, and proclaims the message. The entire city repents: 120,000 people change their lives.
If you want to see the glory of God in your life, it isn't by chasing miracles everywhere, it's by putting the Word into practice.
