1. Acts 5:29

King Saul has just disobeyed a specific command from God while offering sacrifices to justify himself. 4. Joshua 1:8
"This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success."

5. John 14:15
"If you love me, keep my commandments."
On the eve of his death, Jesus explains to his disciples what truly loving him means: "If you love me, keep my commandments." Christian obedience doesn't start from fear, it flows from a relationship of love and gives that love a concrete face. Read all of John 14.

"Jesus answered him, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word. My Father will love him, and we will come to him, and make our home with him."

9. James 1:22
"But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves."

10. Luke 6:46-47
"Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say? Everyone who comes to me, and hears my words, and does them, I will show you who he is like."

11. Matthew 7:24-25
"Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on a rock. The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house; and it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock."
Jesus concludes his great teaching with an image of building: whoever hears his words "and does them" is like a man who builds on the rock. When the storm comes, it's lived-out obedience, not knowledge alone, that holds firm. Read all of Matthew 7.
12. Romans 2:13
"For it isn’t the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified"

The Example of Christ's Obedience
13. John 5:30
"I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous; because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me."
Jesus explains the source of his own action: I don't seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me. Even the Son of God chose to submit every one of his decisions to his Father, a model of perfect obedience to follow. Read all of John 5.
14. Hebrews 5:8
"though he was a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered."
The author recalls a striking aspect of Jesus' journey: though he was a Son, he learned obedience by the things which he suffered. Obedience isn't limited to easy moments, it's forged and proven above all through trial. Read all of Hebrews 5.
15. John 6:38
"For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me."
Jesus reveals the driving force of his whole mission: he came down from heaven "not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me." His every step on earth flows from this constant submission to the Father's plan. Read all of John 6.
16. Hebrews 10:7
"Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’"
The author of Hebrews applies to Jesus these words from the psalms: "I have come... to do your will, O God." From his very entrance into the world, Christ's obedience is presented as the fulfillment of what sacrifices could only foreshadow. Read all of Hebrews 10.
The Blessings Promised to Obedience
17. Deuteronomy 28:1-2
"It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to Yahweh your God’s voice, to observe to do all his commandments which I command you today, that Yahweh your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you, and overtake you, if you listen to Yahweh your God’s voice."
Before entering the promised land, Moses announces the consequences of faithfulness: "if you shall listen diligently to Yahweh your God's voice... all these blessings will come upon you." Obeying God opens the door to a life that he himself chooses to bless. Read all of Deuteronomy 28.
18. Deuteronomy 30:16
"For I command you today to love Yahweh your God, to walk in his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that Yahweh your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it."

19. Isaiah 1:19
"If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good of the land;"
